It is a well-known fact that vehicle emissions contributes to degradation of the environment. Vehicle emissions are contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer increasing the planet’s vulnerability to more warner planet that is faced with rising sea levels and melting ice. Early attempts by carmakers to manufacture environmental friendly automobiles were limited to one or two car makers, including Toyota Motors that makes Prius. But now the roster is getting more complete and even inventing its own glossary of environmental friendly terms such as LEV (low-emission vehicle), ULEV (ultra-low-emission vehicle), and SULEV (super ultra-low-emission vehicle).
Some consider green car is a total electric car or a hybrid mostly represented by the Prius. But today green vehicles come in subcompacts, sedans, SUVs, and even pickups. Fuel that run these cars include gasoline, electricity, combination of gasoline and electricity, flex fuel which is a mixture of gasoline and ethanol, diesel fuel and compressed natural gas. This is where most of the new terms are generated to identify whole new generation of environment friendly vehicles. Other new terms includes ZEV (zero-emission vehicle) and PZEV (partial-zero-emission vehicle). Whatever the language is, new innovations are contributing zero or less emissions and becoming ever more popular with the new generation.
