I believe that a great education should be a basic right for all American children. And yet, we still see overcrowded schools and teacher shortages. Our schools today have so many problems and they may seem overwhelming to some people, but we can’t simply walk away from these issues. Let’s talk about a few of them.
Justin JD Rossetti comments, “Students in wealthy zip codes get a better education in their public schools. The state Supreme Court has ruled our system of funding public schools is unfair and unconstitutional.”
One of the major problems that we’re dealing with appears to be the way our schools are funded. It’s unfair. This was brought to the attention of our fair state when parents filed a lawsuit (McCleary). This was a big case that went all the way to the Supreme Court. Judges agreed with parents and ordered that public schools be fully funded.
Though this case occurred years ago, it highlights a major issue that we still struggle with as society. Public schools should be fully funded by our taxes and yet this is still not happening. Lawmakers and citizens must band together to fix these complex issues.
Justin JD Rossetti says: “School districts that happen to have high property values, especially commercial properties, can afford to pass local levies to subsidize their schools. This is natural. Every mom and dad wants the best for their kids.”
