Take the time to read the ingredients on the bag or can. It is especially important if your pet is very young or very old, the same as with people. The next time you go to the store to buy animal food and pick up the bag of the cheap stuff, grab a bag of something more expensive and compare the ingredients. You may be surprised at the differences. Buy the brand you normally buy, but note what the other brands have in them. Find out what it is that your pet needs for optimal health and then  compare that to the different ingredients you saw on the feed bags. Once you know what it is your pet really needs, try to find the food that most closely resembles that. It may mean you have to go to a pet or feed store, but in the end, your pet will be healthier and happier.
